Logging Misinformation in the Spreadsheet
Each team has access to a Google Sheet (a spreadsheet your team can edit). The link to the spreadsheet has been posted to your team channel as well as the link to your shared Drive (for screenshots).
Note: You’ll need to be logged into your project Google account to access the spreadsheet.
Once the misinformation has reached a threshold of votes, you can log the information in your team’s spreadsheet. You’ll need to use your judgement to determine what the threshold should be, keeping in mind not everyone is as active as everyone else, and it might be obvious which category the content belongs in.
The entries into the spreadsheet are not ‘final’ until the end of the monitoring stage, so you can return to edit them if more votes come in and the category changes.
The columns in the spreadsheet ask you to record the following:
- Content Link: This is the URL address to the content. To find the link, locate the Share button at the bottom of the post and then ‘Copy Link’. Don’t copy and paste directly from your browser address bar.
- Screenshot ID: Take a screenshot of the post, and upload it to the ‘Screenshots’ folder in your shared drive (you can drag and drop). Give it an ID so you can log that into the database (see your spreadsheet for example).
- Categorisation: Whatever label has the most votes gets logged as the Category.
- # of votes: How many votes did the label get?
- Entry Date: The day you log the information. If you need to return to edit the entry make sure to change the entry date as well.
- Account Name: The handle of the account that posted the content. On X (Twitter) it looks like “@example”, on Facebook it’s the username at the top of the post (Sky News Australia in the example above).
- # comments at time of logging: Enter how many comments the post has when you log it.
- #likes at time of logging: Enter the number of likes/reactions the post has when you log it.
- #reposts/shares at time of logging: Enter the number of Shares or Reposts as time of logging.
- Geolocation data (if available): Don’t worry about this for now.
