Code of Conduct
Purpose
- Online discussion spaces are dedicated to facilitating discussions among your team about potential misinformation related to the upcoming Australian elections. Discussions should help your team reach a consensus on the labelling of potential disinformation content.
Participation and Anonymity
- Pseudonym Usage: Participants will be assigned a pseudonym for use in the project’s online forum. To maintain anonymity, do not share personal information with other participants.
- Demographic Diversity: Participants in the discussion come from diverse backgrounds, and everyone is encouraged to contribute respectfully.
Content Guidelines
- Focus of Discussions: Discussions should be centred on social media posts related to upcoming Australian elections that participants suspect may contain disinformation. Follow the guidance provided on recognising and labelling misinformation.
- Sensitive Content: If you encounter content that could potentially violate Australian law, inform the researchers immediately. Do not share this content publicly or outside the research project.
Behavioural Expectations
- Respect and Constructive Criticism: Engage respectfully with others, focusing on constructive criticism. Disagreements should be approached in a professional and courteous manner.
- Confidentiality: Discussions within the forum are strictly confidential. Participants must not share any information or content discussed in the forum with anyone outside the research project. Breaching confidentiality will result in immediate removal from the project.
- Collaboration: Foster a collaborative environment where all voices are heard and valued.
Moderation and Reporting Violations
- Oversight: While the forum is unmoderated, a researcher will constantly oversee the discussions. If you observe any behaviour that violates the code of conduct, report it to the researcher immediately.
- Consequences: Violations of this code of conduct, particularly breaches of confidentiality, will result in the participant’s immediate removal from the project.
Privacy and Security
- Data Handling: Your user account will be set up with a pseudonym to protect your privacy. The level of anonymity is at your discretion—use your pseudonym and avoid sharing personal information if you wish to remain anonymous.
- Security: The forum is a closed environment. Ensure that all discussions and shared materials remain within the forum.
Legal Considerations
- Reporting Illegal Content: If you come across any content that potentially violates Australian election law during your social media monitoring, you must report it to the researchers immediately. Detailed information on what kinds of posts need immediate reporting will be provided during the project.
Support
- Support: If you need assistance or have questions, the researchers overseeing the forum are available to help. Get in touch at hunt-lab@unimelb.edu.au
